How to cash in on your digestates

3rd April 2019 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

£119.00 – £269.00

An ADBA learning & Development event.

Wednesday 3rd April 2019 Keystone Innovation Centre, Thetford, IP24 1JD.

Cash in on your digestate: It’s an Asset, not an Issue.

As an inevitable result of the AD process, many regard digestate as merely a by-product, but it can be turned into an asset that can cut costs and even drive profits.

Rich in nutrients and valuable phosphates, digestate is an ideal natural fertilizer and there are different ways to extract and exploit that potential value.

This event will take an in-depth look at digestate from understanding the biological processes, including the effects and implications of different feedstocks, through to the intricacies of permitting and certification. We will hear from farms with on-site AD plants and the different ways they use the outputs for financial benefit.

The day begins with registration at 10 am, including tea & coffee, before the first address at 10:30.

There will be opportunities for networking and roundtable discussions for delegates to share their own experiences and challenges.
A light lunch will be served (please inform us of any special dietary needs) and the day concludes with a visit to a nearby AD plant in operation.

Key Take-Aways:

  • A clearer understanding of the process, especially the variables affecting digestate.
  • Get to grips with permitting and certification – what is needed, what isn’t, what is relevant for your situation?
  •  Hear concrete examples of digestates being used to save costs and improve overall farm performance.
  •  From a practical perspective, this will show you all you need to know about the practicalities of using digestate in an agricultural situation, including both the potential benefits and some of the challenges involved.

AGENDA:

10 am Registration, tea & coffee.
10:30 Welcome address from ADBA
10:35 David Tompkins, Aquaenviro : A broad introduction to the topic and address current and new uses for digestate. He will also consider the risks of contamination, especially with micro-plastics.
11:15  Stephen Temple, Norfolk farm director: A case study from his own in-farm AD plant, which includes tackling ammonia  emissions and the general cost benefits. Plus a guide to collecting and analysing the relevant data.
11:50 Round table discussion, with refreshments
12:15 Lunch served.
13:00 Andrew Blenkiron, Euston Estates: A case study, prior to visiting their AD plant. He will look at how Euston Farms both provide feedstock and utilise the resulting digestate, with the dual benefits of cost savings and soil improvements.
13:40 Angela Cronje, Roots Organics: A guide to permits and certificates. Angela is a chemical engineer who has worked in the waste industry for 15 years, providing technical support and advice on the recycling of organics.
14:20 Roundtable discussion, with refreshments
15:00 SITE VISIT to Euston Biogas AD plant (Please bring boots)
